Early Life & Education:

Peni Webster Lewis was born in Washington, DC, and pursued her education through various schools in Maryland. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland College Park and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Florida. Her academic journey was unconventional, as she balanced family life, military service, and her studies.

Military & Professional Career:

Peni served as a Military Police Commissioned Officer in the US Army, holding various stateside and international assignments throughout her 17 year active duty and reserve military career. She transitioned to the Florida Army National Guard, where she served as the Provost Marshall for Camp Blanding, FL and attained the rank of Major. She served as the Battalion Executive Officer of the 347th at Fort Gillem, GA and concurrently, she embarked on a civilian career with Job Corps, progressing from an Orientation Specialist to the Acting Deputy Administrator for the National Job Corps Program, overseeing the training of nearly 26,000 students.

Community Involvement & Family Life:

Peni is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., with 47 years of membership. She has held numerous leadership roles within the sorority and has been actively involved in community service initiatives. Her contributions extend to her local community, where she serves as the Communication Chairman for her HOA and has been appointed to the City’s Veterans Advisory Board. Peni is married to Samuel Lewis, and they have seven children and 10 grandchildren.
